#FREETHENIPPLE

Updated: Aug 29, 2018

The other day I saw this clip on CNN on The Worlds First Transgender Bodybuilding Competition. While watching the video I was really thrown off! No, it wasn’t how there was really no competition for the winner as majority of the contestants seemed to have jumped off their couch onto the stage with confidence that threw me off. No it wasn’t about how people were using it as a body emporment, body positive thing instead of taking the actual bodybuilding aspect seriously like the winner and runner up. Nope. It was the fact that not a single nipple was blurred out!! Not one!

Not one!

So all the contestants were born females and were at varying stages of their transition into males. So all the contestants had female nipples, some even had female breast tissue still! Yet it was okay to show on cnn, okay to show on Facebook and YouTube?

Does this mean the only time female nipples are deemed acceptable is when a woman states she is in transition to be a man? I’m pretty sure they didn’t get nipple transplants! Are those even a thing? Even men transitioning to women can show their nipples without incident so what is the issue? Men, transmen and transwomen have free nipple rights but women don’t? How? Why?

The male nipple was also censured and covered up in western societies till they revolted and legally liberated themselves in 1936 allowing them to go topless at the beach starting a new era of more entitled male freedom.

As with all things, it seems women always have to fight a thousand times harder to eventually be granted similar rights to their male counterparts. It is 2016, we are in an era of technological advancements beyond what anyone thought possible in the 1930’s. Soon we will have robots fully intertwined with society more so than now. Isn’t it about time we freed the nipple? Or are we going to wait another 80 years when the humanoid robots already have free nipple rights till we grant them to women as well?

For those interested there is a Free The Nipple documentary available of Netflix, I haven’t watched it yet but since it’s been a big part of this campaign it wouldn’t hurt to check it out.

📷 The western censorship and female body shaming practices aren’t just an issue in western societies but are also causing much strife in colonized third world countries. I didn’t touch on that in this article cause I have A LOT to say, so stay tuned for #FreeTheNippleAfrica.
